Albert SCHWEITZER : 1875-1965 Born in Kaysersberg

Albert Schweitzer spent his childhood in the valley of Munster in Gunsbach. Later, he studied theology and philosophy at the University of Strasbourg before studying medicine there. Precursor of humanitarian aid, he embarked for Gabon in 1913 where he founded the hospital of Lambaréné to treat the local populations. Known for its ethics of the « respect for life », he was the Nobel Prize winner of the peace in 1952.
